The role of cartoons in ETS Hygiene communication

The idea of a cartoon / illustration contest has been proposed by the assistant of the Chairman, Letizia Rostagno.

She has recently graduated in Communication and Art Education in the Academy of fine Arts of Bologna and has also been exposed to the issues ETS faces making Customers and Public Opinion aware of the superior hygiene of Paper Towels.

The proposal has been supported by the AFH Task Force and has been accepted by the Bologna Academy.

ETS has made available a scholarship worth € 1.000 to the winner, plus another one also worth € 1.000 to be split among other participants which have delivered most effectively the desired hygiene message.

The objective of Cartoons and Illustrations is to synthetically portray the superior hygienic performances of Paper Products in comparison to Warm Air Dryers (WAD) and Jet Air Dryers ( JAD)

Up to now the ETS supported Hygiene studies have been presented in Press Conferences in the Westminster University, Hygiene and Cleaning fairs (ISSA, Tissue World), Advertising and PR on Category Magazines.

Though they are known by the Specialists (like WHO), the results of these studies are essentially ignored by the Public Opinion.

The Awards Ceremony took place on 15th June at the Bologna Academy:
Winner of the scholarship offered by the ETS was Gabriele Peddes, with the work entitled Manuum Bacteria.
With his work, Peddes perfectly embodied the concepts required by the contest itself.

Marketing Prize to: Stefania Potito with “Signs of Hygiene”, First Prize: a simple, clear and effective illustration ready to be used for a strong marketing campaign.

The work by Lorenzo Marescalchi entitled “Small choices for a healthy life” united the popularity of Pippi Longstockings with the use of alternative energy sources, winning Second Prize.

The strong impact of the graphic illustration “You scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours” by Giulia Guerra won Third Prize.
