The Product Specific Requirement (PSR) is a system to establish the most important environmental impacts for a given product type and define how these factors are calculated. The outcome is reviewed and approved by independent experts and the general public.
With the PSR as a basis, it is possible to develop an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) that describes a product’s environmental impact with great accuracy.
Within ETS a project has resulted in a suggestion for a PSR, that may serve as the foundation for an EPD.
The advantages of the EPD are that it can be used for international comparisons and it can also be used for comparison with other product groups.
The collected data can further be used by customers for calculating their own impact.
