Tissue paper producers have always had to think
long-term as its raw material is a renewable resource
with a growing cycle of around 50 years. While in
recent years the whole world has woken up to the
importance of sustainability and protecting our
planet for future generations, for the tissue paper
industry it has been a way of life for centuries.
Trees play a crucial role in the earth’s eco-system.
They capture and store billions of tonnes of carbon
dioxide while at the same time providing the planet
with much needed oxygen. And they emit particularly
large quantities of oxygen during the growing phase –
hence underlining the importance of continually
replanting new trees.
With over 80% of the pulp purchased by the European
paper industry certified by an environmental management system, tissue paper users can be assured that
the industry abides by recognised quality standards.
Indeed, some producers go further and their products
carry labels such as the EU Ecolabel and FSC and PEFC
labels confirming their environmental credentials.
