doctor Mark Wilcox, profesor de la University of Leeds y de Leeds Teaching Hospitals, y realizada en Francia, Italia y el Reino Unido, examina el grado de contaminaci\u00f3n bacteriana en ba\u00f1os de hospitales provocada por pat\u00f3genos bacterianos en funci\u00f3n del m\u00e9todo de secado de manos. En el estudio, se detectaron bacterias resistentes a los antibi\u00f3ticos \u2013como <strong>la<\/strong> <strong>MRSA y los enterococos productores de BLEE\u2013 <\/strong>con mayor frecuencia en los ba\u00f1os donde se usaban secadores de chorro de aire.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00abEstos resultados tendr\u00e1n implicaciones importantes en las directrices sobre los m\u00e9todos de secado de manos en entornos sanitarios\u00bb<\/em>, dice el profesor Wilcox.<em> \u00abEs un estudio que interesa especialmente a m\u00e9dicos y enfermeras que trabajan en la prevenci\u00f3n y control de infecciones, responsables de compras y todos aquellos responsables de minimizar la propagaci\u00f3n de infecciones cruzadas.\u00bb<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Este trabajo es una investigaci\u00f3n independiente concebida y llevada a cabo por varios cient\u00edficos en tres hospitales diferentes: el profesor Wilcox, en el Leeds General Infirmary, (Leeds Teaching Hospitals, Reino Unido), el profesor Fr\u00e9d\u00e9ric Barbut, de la Unidad de Control de Infecciones del Hospital Saint-Antoine (AP-HP) en Par\u00eds (Francia) y el profesor Silvio Brusaferro, del&nbsp;Departamento de Medicina del Hospital Universitario de Udine (Italia).<\/p>\n<p>El estudio compar\u00f3 dos ba\u00f1os por hospital, y cada lavabo ten\u00eda tanto dispensadores de toallitas de papel como secadores de chorro de aire, pero solo se us\u00f3 un m\u00e9todo de secado de manos en cada medici\u00f3n. Las personas que usaron los ba\u00f1os fueron pacientes, visitantes y personal del centro. Mediante un dise\u00f1o cruzado, se compararon los \u00edndices de contaminaci\u00f3n durante un periodo de doce semanas. Durante el estudio, se llevaron a cabo 120 sesiones de toma de muestras en total en los tres hospitales. Esta investigaci\u00f3n independiente se realiz\u00f3 en 2017 y cont\u00f3 con el apoyo financiero de <a href=\"http:\/\/europeantissue.com\/\">ETS<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Presencia de microorganismos resistentes a los antimicrobianos (MRA)<br \/>\n<\/em><\/strong>En el estudio se detectaron bacterias como la <em>Staphylococcus aureus<\/em> susceptible (MSSA) y resistente a la meticilina (MRSA), enterococos y enterobacterias como las productoras de BLEE (betalactamasas de espectro extendido).<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Datos clave<br \/>\n<\/em><\/strong>En general, la contaminaci\u00f3n hallada en los ba\u00f1os con toallitas de papel (TP) era menor que en los lavabos con secadores de chorro de aire (SA), y la presencia de bacterias era considerablemente mayor en las superficies exteriores de los SA que en las de los dispensadores de TP en los tres hospitales (mediana de unidades formadoras de colonias (UFC) de 100-300 frente a 0-10, con un p&lt;0,0001). Mientras que el \u00edndice de contaminaci\u00f3n era similar en Francia y el Reino Unido, en Italia era considerablemente inferior, probablemente por un menor tr\u00e1fico de personas y m\u00e9todos de limpieza distintos.<\/p>\n<p>Hab\u00eda diferencias significativas entre los tres hospitales. En concreto, se detect\u00f3 una cantidad de bacterias notablemente superior en los suelos de los ba\u00f1os con SA de los hospitales brit\u00e1nico y franc\u00e9s (mediana de 24 frente a 191 UFC, p&lt;0,00001). En los lavabos provistos de SA encontramos mayor cantidad de bacterias en suelos y en las superficies de los propios secadores que en los ba\u00f1os equipados con TP. En trabajos anteriores, como el elaborado por el profesor Wilcox y Keith Redway, de la University of Westminster, tambi\u00e9n se ha concluido que los secadores el\u00e9ctricos pueden contaminar de bacterias y virus tanto el aire como las superficies.&nbsp;&nbsp;<em>(ver estos estudios a continuaci\u00f3n)&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00abYa ten\u00edamos pruebas tanto de laboratorio como in situ.
